The Parish Council consists of Father Thomas Guerry and fifteen elected lay members. The Parish Council is responsible for the administrative and operational needs of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church and to keep, practice and proclaim the Orthodox Christian Faith. Parish Council members are elected on a rotating basis for three-year terms. The Parish Council Executive Board for 2023 comprises: Pete Simon, President, Heather Lambros, Vice-President, Chuck Faris, Treasurer, and Julie Chokas Peters, Secretary.
The Chantor or Reader (Psalti / Ψαλτή) is a lay person who assists the priest by chanting responses and hymns in the services or sacraments of the church. To learn more about becoming a Chantor or Reader the Chant Resources website provided by the Archdiocese is an excellent resource. Those interesting in becoming a Chantor or Reader should call the Church Office or Father Tom.
Adding to the beauty of our divine worship is the able and dedicated effort of the members of our choir. However, new voices are always needed to augment the superlative psalmody which we have become accustomed to expect. All individuals interested in joining are encouraged to speak with the Choir Director or any member of the choir. Choir music and hymns are available on-line through AGES Digital Chant Stand. He who sings prays twice!
St. Paul’s always stands ready to serve those Orthodox Christians who are in our area from other parts of the country. Our door is always open to the military personnel attached to a neighboring post and to students enrolled in area schools. If you know of someone who is in Savannah for a limited stay, please contact the Church Office so that we may address their spiritual needs during that time.
The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society is the philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Philoptochos promotes charitable, benevolent and philanthropic outreach; works to preserve the sanctity of life and family; and promotes our Orthodox faith and traditions. The St. Barbara’s Philoptochos Society is the Philoptochos chapter of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, committed to conducting and funding philanthropic work in greater Savannah. SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED
The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in July 1922 to promote Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, family, and individual excellence. The Order of AHEPA has over 400 chapters across the United States, Canada, and Europe. The AHEPA chapter at St. Paul’s is the Solon Chapter (District 1, Chapter 5). Although a majority of the membership is composed of Americans of Greek descent, application for membership is open to anyone who believes in the mission of the organization.
